SAT Grammar - Tutoring Flashcard

The following excerpt is from The Critical Reader - Grammar - by Erica Meltzer. This is one of my favorite books for the SAT Writing Test that I’ve come across. It’s easy to read and filled with many examples and practice questions.

Does preparing for the SAT help improve your score? The long-debated question has evolved over the decades. For decades, the testing industry actually denied that you could improve your score through prep work.

Passport to Advanced Math questions focus on the ability to work with and analyze more complex equations. The questions may require you to demonstrate procedural skill in adding, subtracting, and multiplying polynomials and in factoring polynomials.

Problem Solving and Data Analysis includes using ratios, percentages, and proportional reasoning to solve problems in real world situations, including science, social science, and other contexts. It also includes describing relationships shown graphically and analyzing statistical data.

Heart of Algebra focuses on linear equations, systems of linear equations, and functions that are found in many fields of study. These questions ask you to create equations that represent a situation and solve equations and systems of equations as well as to make connections between different representations of linear relationships.

As I begin this tutoring journey, I know that I can help your child succeed because I know the SAT, I know how to take standardized tests, and, most importantly, I care. I also know that tutoring in general can be better than it is. I intended to do my part.
